2020 Gunn Lecture

 

The 2020 Annual UBC Chan Gunn Lecture will be held Thursday October 22,2020; 5:00- 6:00PM(PT)

Each year, distinguished scholars/clinicians are invited to speak at the UBC Chan Gunn Annual Lecture about issues related to IMS and neuropathic pain. This lecture is held in honour of Dr. Chan Gunn and his generous contributions.

Our topic will be: The Elite Athlete, their Support Team and Gunn IMS, presented by the unique team of athlete, coach and clinician.

Body Composition and Sport Nutrition Now Available

Performance Sport Nutrition and Exercise Physiologist Alan Kenny is now available to do detailed Body Composition Assessments and Nutritional Consultations through our Centre. Check out his bio here and the list of services here.

Exercise and Air Pollution

On days when the air pollution is high, it can be confusing how and whether to exercise, the attached video from the recent International Triathlon Union Sport Science Conference  discussions these complex interactions.  The speaker is Professor Michael Koehle, one of our physicians and researchers.

The Chan Gunn Pavilion houses the Centre for Physical Activity & Exercise Medicine which includes:

 

  • increased capacity and enhanced space for the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Clinic (including Primary Care Sport Medicine, Physiotherapy, Orthopaedics),
  • the Jack and Darlene Poole Rehabilitation and Research Gym — a space to develop and deliver evidence-based exercise programs to prevent, treat and manage cancer and other medical conditions,
  • the Gunn IMS wing, dedicated to chronic pain treatment and research,
  • a kinesiology and physiology laboratory to orchestrate research and care involving with fitness monitoring and muscular and cardiorespiratory testing,
  • an imaging suite equipped with cutting-edge technology.
