How to Apply

The basic criteria for application is the completion of a Family Medicine residency.  We encourage applicants who have experience within family practice to apply.  At times residents involved in specialty training programs can incorporate the fellowship into their program (usually during PGY4).  Funding for the Fellowship is through either the UBC Department of Family Practice Enhanced Skills PGY 3 program, or specialty PGY4.

We also consider applications from international physicians who have the appropriate credentials, can meet the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC requirements to practice in British Columbia, and have medical protective insurance.  Please note that funding is not provided for international fellows.

Please submit the following to information to Jo-Ann Bateman to be considered:

  1. A formal letter of application, stating your reasons for this pursuit of study and future intent,
  2. Three letters of reference,
  3. An up-to-date curriculum vitae,
  4. Any publications you may have credited to your name.

Please note that all applicants must meet the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia requirements to practice in B.C., and have medical protective insurance.

Those applying for PGY3 funding will also need to apply to the UBC Department of Family Practice Enhanced Skills Program.

Residents in a specialty program require consent from his/her Program Director.

Applications are accepted each year from August 21 – October 6.
Successful candidates are offered a position by December 7, and he/she will have 10 days to accept.
The program begins on July 1 the following year.
